Famous Wills
A number of celebrities actually never made a Will and, not surprisingly, difficulties ensued often dragging on for years.
Jimi Hendrix made no Will and the battle over his estate raged on for more than 30 years. Bob Marley also died intestate and his estate had literally dozens of claimants.
Swedish author Stieg Larsson who wrote The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo among others, died in 2004. Like Hendrix and Marley, Larsson died without a Will – his lifelong partner of 32 years received nothing, although the family did grant her ownership of the couple’s apartment.
Howard Hughes, the eccentric billionaire, had his estate divided among his 22 cousins after a Will was found to be a forgery.
Famous or not, everyone should make a Will.
